Bitcoin (BTC) to USD converter

Use the calculator above to convert Bitcoin (BTC) into US dollars or another supported fiat currency. The BTC leg follows our live multi-exchange composite; fiat values use dated reference rates and are identified separately.

BTC to USD is the most searched Bitcoin conversion. The rate here is not one exchange's price: it is our composite of every dollar-quoted BTC market we track, weighted by volume, so it sits in the middle of what the exchanges are quoting right now.

How is the Bitcoin conversion calculated?

We multiply the entered BTC amount by our current USD composite. For currencies other than USD, that result is multiplied by the displayed USD reference rate. Exchange fees, card charges, spreads and slippage are not included, so an actual buy or sale can settle at a different amount.

Converting satoshis and small amounts of BTC to USD

A bitcoin divides into 100 million satoshis, so 1 satoshi is 0.00000001 BTC. Most everyday amounts are fractions: 0.001 BTC is 100,000 satoshis, and at a price of $80,000 it is worth $80.

To convert satoshis to dollars, divide by 100 million and multiply by the BTC price. The converter accepts amounts down to the eighth decimal place, so you can enter a satoshi value directly as a BTC fraction.

BTC to USD or BTC to USDT: is there a difference?

Usually a fraction of a cent per dollar. Most Bitcoin volume trades against USDT and USDC, stablecoins built to hold one US dollar, rather than against actual dollars.

Our composite includes USD, USDT, USDC and the other dollar stablecoins we track. If a stablecoin lost its peg, its market would drift away from the others and show up in the cross-venue spread instead of quietly shifting the average.

Why the BTC to USD rate differs between exchanges

Every exchange runs its own order book, so each prints its own Bitcoin price. Bitcoin's books are the deepest in crypto, and in our minute-by-minute measurement the gap between exchanges averaged about 0.025 percent. That is about $20 on a $80,000 coin.

On a small conversion the gap is noise. On a large sale it is real money: 0.025 percent of $1 million is $250 before fees. The Bitcoin price page lists every venue side by side.

What affects the BTC to USD rate

Supply and demand across the exchanges. Bitcoin leads the market: in our hourly composite, Ethereum moved with it at a correlation of about 0.86. When the rate moves sharply, leverage is usually involved, as liquidated positions are sold at market.

The 24-hour high, low and change above show how far the rate has moved today. The gap between exchanges shows how much the venues disagree right now.

What you actually receive when you sell BTC for dollars

The converter shows market value. What reaches your bank is that value minus the trading fee, minus any fiat withdrawal fee, and minus slippage if the order is large enough to move the price.

Worked example: selling 0.5 BTC at $80,000 is worth $40,000. A 0.1 percent spot trading fee takes $40, leaving $39,960 before any withdrawal charge. Our fee comparison lists spot fees venue by venue.

How much is 1 BTC worth?

One BTC is currently worth $77,714.91 on our composite. The value and both conversion tables update after the page loads when fresh composite prices arrive.

Bitcoin converter questions

01How much is 1 Bitcoin in USD right now?

The converter above shows the live value of 1 BTC, calculated from our composite across every exchange we track. It updates as new prices arrive.

02How do I convert Bitcoin to USD?

Multiply the amount of BTC by the current BTC price. To receive dollars you have to sell on an exchange and withdraw; the amount that arrives is lower than the converter value by the trading fee, any withdrawal fee and slippage.

03Why is BTC crashing?

Fast falls are usually driven by leveraged positions being liquidated, which forces more selling. The converter shows the value at the current price; the Bitcoin page shows the funding rates that reveal how crowded the leveraged side is.

04How much Bitcoin can I buy for $1?

Divide $1 by the BTC price. At $80,000 per BTC, $1 buys 0.0000125 BTC, which is 1,250 satoshis, before fees. Exchanges usually set a minimum order larger than $1.

05How many satoshis are in a bitcoin?

100 million. One satoshi is 0.00000001 BTC, the smallest unit the Bitcoin network records.
