What is Avalanche?

Avalanche is a proof-of-stake blockchain for smart contracts, built to confirm transactions in about a second. AVAX is its native token: it pays network fees and is staked by validators. Avalanche also lets projects launch their own chains, called L1s, that plug into the same validator network.

AVAX has a hard cap of 720 million tokens, and every transaction fee paid in AVAX is burned, so network use removes coins from supply.

How to buy Avalanche, step by step

2. Create and verify your account. Regulated exchanges ask for identity documents before you can deposit fiat.
3. Fund the account. A bank transfer or a stablecoin deposit usually costs far less than a card payment.

5. Decide where to keep it. On the exchange is simplest, but the exchange then holds your coins. Avalanche has more than one chain; for a normal wallet, withdraw on the C-Chain, the one most wallets and apps use.

Why the Avalanche price differs between exchanges

In our minute-by-minute measurement the gap between the highest and lowest venue averaged about 0.061 percent, and it went above half a percent in about six minutes per thousand. Bitcoin averaged about 0.025 percent.

What moves the Avalanche price

The wider crypto market first. In our hourly composite, AVAX moved with Bitcoin at a correlation of about 0.52, where 1 would mean identical moves, and its moves were about two and a half times the size of Bitcoin’s.

Avalanche-specific drivers, such as new chains launching on its network, token unlocks and leverage, come on top. Its link to Bitcoin is one of the weakest among the large coins we track. The funding rates on this page show whether traders are paying to be long or short right now.
