What is Chainlink?

Smart contracts cannot see anything outside their own blockchain: not an exchange rate, not a sports result, not a bank balance. Chainlink is an oracle network that fetches that data from many independent node operators, aggregates it and publishes it on-chain, so a lending protocol, for example, knows when to liquidate a loan.

LINK is the token that pays those node operators and that they stake as a guarantee of good behaviour. The total supply is 1 billion LINK.

How to buy Chainlink, step by step

5. Decide where to keep it. On the exchange is simplest, but the exchange then holds your coins. LINK is a token on Ethereum and other networks, so when you withdraw, choose the network your wallet expects; the network fee is paid in that network’s own coin, not in LINK.

Why the Chainlink price differs between exchanges

In our minute-by-minute measurement the gap between the highest and lowest venue averaged about 0.058 percent, more than twice Bitcoin’s 0.025 percent. It went above half a percent in about one minute in two hundred, and reached about 1.9 percent at its widest.

What moves the Chainlink price

The wider crypto market first. In our hourly composite, LINK moved with Bitcoin at a correlation of about 0.73, where 1 would mean identical moves, and its moves were about twice the size of Bitcoin’s.

Chainlink-specific drivers, such as new integrations and staking, come on top, together with leverage. The funding rates on this page show whether traders are paying to be long or short right now.
