What is Solana?
Solana is a proof-of-stake blockchain built for speed. Block slots arrive roughly every 400 milliseconds, fees are usually a fraction of a cent, and it runs smart contracts, decentralised exchanges and a large share of the market’s newer tokens. SOL is its native asset: it pays network fees and is staked by validators to secure the chain.
How to buy Solana, step by step
- Pick an exchange. Every exchange we track lists SOL. Compare fees, funding options and whether it serves your country in our exchange reviews.
- Create and verify your account. Regulated exchanges ask for identity documents before you can deposit fiat.
- Fund the account. A bank transfer or a stablecoin deposit usually costs far less than a card payment.
- Buy SOL. Use the SOL/USDT or SOL/USD market. You can buy a fraction of one SOL.
- Decide where to keep it. On the exchange is simplest, but the exchange then holds your coins. A Solana wallet you control removes that risk, and many wallets let you stake SOL from there.
Where to buy Solana at the best price
Every exchange we track lists SOL, and the cheapest one right now is marked in the table above. Add its trading fee before comparing.
- The price on that venue. Each row shows the gap to our composite.
- The trading fee. Our fee comparison lists spot fees side by side.
- How you fund the account. A bank transfer or stablecoin deposit is usually far cheaper than a card payment, which often costs several percent.
Why the Solana price differs between exchanges
In our minute-by-minute measurement the gap between the highest and lowest venue averaged about 0.036 percent, closer to Bitcoin’s 0.025 percent than to most large altcoins, and it went above half a percent in about one minute in a thousand.
Part of the reason is where it trades. SOL’s spot volume is spread across all the venues we track, with no single exchange carrying much more than half, so several deep books keep each other in line. The spread figure at the top of this page is the live measurement; our guide on why crypto prices differ between exchanges explains the mechanism.
What moves the Solana price
Mostly Bitcoin. In our hourly composite, SOL moved with Bitcoin at a correlation of about 0.84, where 1 would mean identical moves, and its moves were about 1.6 times the size of Bitcoin’s. A sharp Bitcoin move usually shows up in SOL in the same hour, somewhat larger.
Solana-specific drivers come on top: activity on the network, staking and leverage. The funding rates on this page show whether traders are paying to be long or short right now.
Pros and cons of Solana
Pros
- Very fast block slots and fees that are usually a fraction of a cent.
- SOL can be staked for a share of network rewards.
- Its price agrees across exchanges closely, about 0.036 percent on average in our measurement, and its volume is spread across every venue we track.
Cons
- No fixed supply cap; holders who do not stake are diluted by issuance.
- Its hourly moves were about 1.6 times Bitcoin’s in our data.
- Its all-time high is far above where it has traded since, and it has fallen sharply before.
How SOL supply works
SOL has no hard cap. New SOL is issued to stakers as rewards, at an inflation rate that started at 8 percent a year and falls by 15 percent of itself each year toward a long-term floor of 1.5 percent. Half of every base transaction fee is burned.
Staking rewards go to validators and the holders who delegate to them, so holders who do not stake are diluted by issuance over time.
Solana’s highest price
Solana’s all-time high is about $293 on volume-weighted data, with single exchanges printing slightly higher at the peak. The chart above shows the last 30 days of our composite.

Questions people actually ask
01How can I buy Solana Coin?
Open an account on any exchange in the table above, fund it by bank transfer or stablecoin deposit, and buy on the SOL/USD or SOL/USDT market. Every exchange we track lists SOL. The row marked cheapest has the lowest price right now; add that venue's trading fee before comparing.
02Is it better to buy XRP or Solana?
We do not recommend one over the other. They are built for different jobs: Solana runs smart contracts and applications on a proof-of-stake chain with no fixed supply cap, while XRP is a payment asset with a fixed 100 billion supply. In our measurement SOL's price also agrees more closely across exchanges, about 0.036 percent against about 0.05 percent for XRP.
03Is it worth buying Solana now?
We do not give investment advice. What we can show is what SOL costs right now on each exchange, how closely those prices agree, and whether leveraged traders are paying to be long or short through funding.
