What is NEAR Protocol?

NEAR Protocol is a proof-of-stake blockchain for applications, built to split its work across parallel shards so that capacity grows with use. NEAR is its native coin: it pays network fees, is staked by validators, and pays for storing data on the chain. Accounts use readable names instead of long hexadecimal addresses.
